What Is the Wonder Contest?

Wonder Contest is a large-scale, alliance-based PvP event in Age of Empires Mobile. Alliances form legions and deploy them to a dedicated Wonder Battlefield, where they fight to occupy Wonder Buildings — the Wonder Garrison, Wonder Outposts, and the central Empire Arena / Fearless Monument — and to defeat AI-controlled Wonder Spirits guarding the map.

Victory isn't decided by raw troop power alone. It comes down to alliance coordination: who is scheduled to fight, which structures your legion targets first, how well you defend what you've taken, and how efficiently you convert battlefield control into alliance points. The alliance with the most points when the battle window ends wins the match and claims the top rewards.

Who takes part

Whole alliances, organized into legions of up to 30 members. Individual skill matters, but legion-level teamwork decides the outcome.

What you're fighting for

Occupation of Wonder Buildings, which generate alliance points every tick they remain under your control.

How long it lasts

Each battle session runs for a fixed 45-minute window, held on Saturday and Sunday.

The Weekly Event Cycle

Wonder Contest runs on a five-day cycle. Each day has a specific purpose — miss a step and you (or your legion) may not make it onto the battlefield at all.

Wednesday
Schedule Selection
Log in and choose your preferred battle time slot. This tells your alliance leadership when you're available so they can build balanced legions around real player availability.
Thursday
Legion Creation & Assignment
R4/R5 alliance leaders form up to five legions (30 members each) and assign every legion to one of the available battle times based on the previous day's sign-ups.
Friday
Matchmaking
The system pairs your legion against an opponent of comparable strength. Same-server matchups run first; from the third event onward, cross-server matchups are introduced.
Saturday & Sunday
Battle Days
The actual fighting happens across three possible slots: 01:00, 11:00, and 19:00 (UTC — always confirm in-game, as slot times can shift). Board the Wonder Airship from your alliance's Airdock to deploy.
Why the schedule matters Legions are built around who actually shows up. A legion with 30 names but only 10 active players at fight time will lose ground fast — confirming your slot on Wednesday and showing up on time is the single easiest way to help your alliance win.

How to Join a Battle

  1. Sign up for a schedule during the Wednesday registration window so leadership can plan legions around you.
  2. Get placed into a legion by your alliance's R4/R5 officers — up to five legions can be formed, each holding up to 30 players.
  3. Wait for matchmaking to lock in your opponent on Friday.
  4. Deploy through the Alliance Airdock on your battle day — this special world-map building lets your legion board the Wonder Airship, which transports you to the Wonder Battlefield.
  5. Bring your best two armies. Each player is limited to two armies in this event, so pre-build the strongest pair you have rather than spreading power thin.

Arrive a few minutes before your slot opens. Being online, buffed, and ready the moment the gates open is worth more than any single hero pull.

Wonder Buildings & Occupation Mechanics

The battlefield is anchored around a central Empire Arena, ringed by four Wonder Garrisons and eight Wonder Outposts (two per direction: North, East, South, West). These structures are the entire point of the match.

Empire Arena (Fearless Monument)

The central, highest-value structure. Occupying it grants major combat bonuses to your troops on top of large alliance point gains — expect it to be the most contested spot on the map.

Wonder Garrison

Guards the wonder directly. Occupying a Garrison awards substantial legion points and lets your defeated troops revive on the spot, so it doubles as a forward base.

Wonder Outpost

Smaller satellite points around each Garrison. They grant fewer points individually but are easier to take and hold, and also allow troop revival — useful for locking down territory early.

How occupation actually works

Key takeaway Points scale with time held, not just capture count. A legion that grabs three Outposts and defends them for the full session will often out-score one that spreads thin trying to tag everything on the map.
05

Battlefield Defensive Forces

Beyond enemy alliances, the map is patrolled by AI-controlled defenders. Clearing them opens safer paths to Wonder Buildings and hands out rewards that make your troops stronger for the rest of the match.

ForceDifficultyReward
Common & Elite Wonder GuardsLow – ModerateWonder points + buff runes
Legendary Wonder SpiritsHigh — needs a coordinated groupLarge wonder points + the strongest buff runes in the event

Buff runes from these fights are a real strategic resource — they boost your legion's combat stats for the rest of the session. Clear common guards early with solo or small groups, then organize a focused push on a Legendary Wonder Spirit once you have troops to spare.

06

Alliance Wonder Buildings & Wonder Blessings

Separate from the battlefield, your alliance can construct and upgrade its own Wonder Buildings back in your home world. These generate Wonder Blessings — temporary buffs (attack, defense, march speed, troop recovery, and more) that your legion can activate before or during a Wonder Contest match.

07

Winning Strategies

Counter, don't just clash

Identify what the enemy legion is running and hit their soft counter first — e.g., clear enemy pikemen before your cavalry engages — instead of trading head-on.

Stack hero synergy

Send debuffing heroes in first to weaken enemy troops, then follow up with your hardest-hitting damage dealer to capitalize on the reduced defenses.

Bait and disrupt

Draw enemy forces away from a target structure with a feint, then swoop in to claim it uncontested while they're out of position.

Take the Monuments

Monuments scattered across the map grant attack/defense bonuses to whoever controls them. Securing one early pays off for the rest of the match.

Play aggressively

Troops revive rather than being permanently lost, so there's little downside to pressuring the enemy hard and often — passive play just cedes ground.

Hold, don't just capture

A structure only pays off while you control it. Rotate fresh troops in to relieve tired squads and keep a response force ready for counterattacks.

Popular hero builds

The best combination depends on the heroes and star levels you actually have, but commonly recommended pairings include Warrior/Archer lines built around Hua Mulan, Attila, and Belisarius (or Lu Bu, Guan Yu, and Attila), and Tactician/Cavalry lines built around Mamuto, Yodit, and Triana (or Hannibal, Justinian, and Ashoka). Hannibal in particular is valued for stacking debuffs that let a follow-up damage hero like Mamuto hit much harder.

08

Rewards

Weekly rewards

You earn Empire Coins for every match played, win or lose. Sweep all five matches in a week and you can bank up to 1,000 Empire Coins.

Bi-weekly rewards

Every two weeks, performance-based rewards are distributed, including up to 5,000 Empire Coins depending on your alliance's results.

Wonder Store

Spend tokens earned in-event on Universal Hero Medals, recruitment tokens, XP tomes, speed-ups, and materials for your alliance's own Wonder Buildings — wonder blueprints, flames of wish, and wonder fragments.

Don't let it go to waste Wonder Contest tokens reset every Monday, and you can accumulate up to 30,000 coins per week — spend down your balance before the reset rather than hoarding it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many armies can I use in the event?

Each player is limited to two armies during Wonder Contest. This keeps the mode accessible for free-to-play players who may only have one or two fully developed armies, and rewards focused, efficient army building over spreading resources thin.

Do I lose my troops permanently if I'm defeated?

No — troops resurrect during the event rather than being lost for good. This is intentional: it's designed to encourage aggressive, high-pressure play instead of overly cautious turtling.

Will I fight players from other servers?

The first two Wonder Contest events for a given alliance are typically same-server only, to let everyone learn the mode. From the third event onward, cross-server matchmaking kicks in.

What happens if two legions occupy the same structure at once?

The occupation progress bar pauses. Neither side gains ground until one legion is cleared out of the zone entirely — so contested points become fights of attrition and positioning, not just first-to-arrive.

Should I prioritize the Empire Arena or the smaller Outposts?

Depends on your legion's strength. Strong, well-coordinated legions should contest the Empire Arena for its higher point value and combat bonuses; smaller or less-coordinated groups often score more reliably by securing and defending several Outposts instead of losing a drawn-out fight for the center.
